2.2 The Caucus-Race

A race with no start, no finish, and prizes for everyone

Introduction

The Dodo organizes a caucus-race

To dry off after the Pool of Tears, the Dodo proposes a caucus-race: the runners arrange themselves anywhere they like along the course, begin running whenever they please, and stop whenever they please as well. After about half an hour everyone is dry, the Dodo declares the race over, and announces that everybody has won, and all must have prizes — which Alice is then obliged to distribute from her own pocket. It is the most efficient race in literature, and possibly the fairest.
